The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC for mid-range smartphones has just been introduced with very interesting specifications.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 offers a powerful improvement over the previous Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and wants to compete with the recent Meditek Dimensity 9400e. This is an Octa Core chip manufactured in 4 nm with a balanced core configuration between high performance and low power consumption. Overall, according to the manufacturer’s data we have a 27% improvement in CPU power, a 30% improvement in GPU and up to 65% in terms of the AI section. In terms of connectivity, we now have a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port that substantially improves its predecessor.
In addition, it includes support for Wifi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, which will give us more energy efficiency and speed in this connection. We also have support for cameras up to 200 MP. An SoC that opens the doors to make a mid-range smartphone with great capabilities.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 specifications
This SoC mounts an Octa Core configuration and is manufactured in 4 nm by TSMC, so it will have a proven efficiency. Inside we have 1 high-performance ARM Cortex-A720 core up to 2.8 GHz, 3 other ARM Cortex-A720 cores configured at 2.4 GHz and finally 4 low-power Cortex-A520 cores that reach up to 1.84 GHz.
For the graphics section we have an Adreno GPU, but as we can see in the advertising we are assured that performance is 30% better than in the previous version. This SoC allows the use of WQHD resolutions, 144 Hz refresh, HDR10 support and support for h.265 and VP9 codecs. In addition, we can connect an external display up to 4K@60 thanks to its USB-C 3.1 Gen2 port, a port that allows Quick Charger 5 fast charging.
Cameras, AI, connectivity and other features
For RAM we have support for LPDDR5x up to 16 GB 4200 MHz, while for storage it offers us UFS 3.1 support. We also have Wifi 7 connectivity up to 5.8 Gbps, Bluetooth 6, aptX Lossless, Hi-Fi audio, five GPS support and Modem-RF with speed up to 4.2 Gbps and sub-6GHz support. The integrated camera controller is a 12-bit triple ISP that enables up to 200 MP still camera, while video goes up to 4K@60fps with HDR support.
In the artificial intelligence section we have Gen AI greatly improved over the previous version, supporting image generation with Stable Diffusion. The upgraded Hexagon NPU includes Fused AI acceleration with support for mixed-precision formats such as INT4, INT8 and INT16. There is also a dedicated Sensing Hub for always-on tasks, managing the environment and sensors.
