For some time now we have been seeing that in many Android TV-Boxes, remote control app is not included by default, something that was previously almost mandatory and now seems secondary. In the new products we usually do not find this option or they are no longer compatible with the classic control app. To solve this problem we are currently using CetusPlay an alternative that gives us very good results and where we have better features than in the official remote control app.
REMOTE CONTROL INSTALLATION IN ANDROID
To use this remote control system we need to install two app, on the one hand the app server on the Android TV-Box to be controlled and another client app that we will use to remote control on our smartphone or tablet. We can install it from Google Play or using an APK, if we use this last method we will have to activate “Unknown origins” in our system.
- Download Cetus Play Server from Google Play or the APK from the official website
- Download Cetus Play Client from Google Play or the APK from the oficial website, also available for iOS
STARTUP AND USE ON ANDROID
CetusPlay configuration
The system can be configured very simply, the only key point is to have our TV-Box and Smartphone in the same Wi-Fi network. Once we have them connected in the same network we just need to run the Cetus Play server in our Android TV-Box and keep it active, something that happens simply by executing it. Once we have activated it in our TV-Box we just need to run the client on our Smartphone and look for the TV-Box to connect by clicking on the top part of the app.
The four control modes included are the classic, on the one hand we have a directional controller with Android shortcuts, touch control that allows us to raise or lower the page with two fingers (no pinch gesture for zoom), mouse type control with pointer and numeric keypad with control crosshead emulating a classic TV remote. As you can see a virtual remote control quite complete and recommended for its high compatibility.
REMOTE CONTROL FOR PC
- To control the mini PC’s with Windows we can use the remoto control app for Windows PC.

This is not a helpful answer. The app seems to be not available on US Apple app store nor on the dutch one. Which app store is it available on? The cetusplay.com site does not provide that information.
