Another small multimedia box that appears in Chinese online stores and that mounts the new Amlogic S905W2 SoC, which it seems that we are going to see in profusion, this time called S96 Mate.
This is a basic multimedia box, although it already comes with 4 GB of RAM, which only stands out for including the latest cheap range AMlogic SoC on it, you can already consult our analysis. A Box oriented towards multimedia reproduction and not recommended for streaming player for payment platforms, as it lacks certificates to view them in the highest quality.
It stands out thanks to its new SoC for its ability to decode AV1 video up to 4K @ 60fps resolutions and with HDR 10+. The operating system is Android 11, so we are up-to-date in this regard and that guarantees us a lot of useful life for this device, the normal Android apps in principle will not cause us problems with this Box and for mid-range games it will also be worth us.
SoC, RAM and storage
Inside the TV Box S96 Mate we find the heart of the new Amlogic S905W2 SoC, a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and a MALI-G3 MP2 GPU, a sufficient configuration to use streaming apps, KODI and some simple games.
In this model we have built-in 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, 32/64 GB of eMMc storage memory and a micro SD card reader located on one side of the black plastic box that allows us to increase its internal storage capacity.
Other features
As for wireless connectivity inside the S96 Mate we have Dual band Wi-Fi aC with internal antenna, and Bluetooth 5.0. In the connectors section, this Smart Box includes 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0b port, SPDIF audio output, micro SD reader, 10/100 network connector and finally an analogue port for audio and video.
Also included in the box is a simple infrared remote control, power supply and all the necessary cables to get it started right out of the box.
