U8 mini a low-end Android Box with no appeal

The Box with Android U8 mini is the typical low-quality Chinese product that integrates the AMlogic S905W2 SoC, a very interesting processor, as you can see in our analysis.

The Box U8 mini is basically oriented towards multimedia playback and IPTV streaming, although at the moment it is only available at an unattractive price and without Bluetooth connectivity. A very basic Android Box that is not recommended for viewing payment platforms such as Netflix, since it lacks the certificates to view them in maximum video quality.

Its processor is capable of decoding video with the AV1 codec up to 4K@60fps resolutions and HDR 10+ support and in theory the operating system is Android 11, something that would give us enough useful life for this device. On the purchase page, it talks about Android 9.1, a version that doesn’t even exist and that gives this Box no confidence.

U8 mini Specs

Inside the TV Box U8 mini we find the Amlogic S905W2 SoC manufactured in 12 nm as the heart. This processor is a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and a MALI-G3 MP2 GPU. A sufficient processor to use streaming apps, KODI, IPTV and some simple games in 3D load.

In this device, we have integrated 1/2 GB of DDR3 RAM and 8/16 GB of eMMc storage memory. It also has a micro SD format card reader that allows us to increase its internal storage capacity.

Other features

In the wireless connectivity section in the U8 mini, as it is a low-end box, we only have Wi-Fi b/g/n with internal antenna, and it does NOT have Bluetooth. In the connectors section, this Smart Box includes 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0 port, SPDIF digital audio output, 10/100 network connector and finally an analogue port for audio and video.

Included with the accessories is a simple infrared remote control, power adapter and all the necessary cables to get it up and running right out of the box.

Price and availability in stores

  • The TV-Box U8 mini can be purchased on AliExpress from $58 with free shipping in its version with 1/8 GB of RAM that we do not recommend at all, there are better options.
  • The version with 2/16 GB at the moment we only find it at an absurd price.
