We have so far seen almost no TV-Boxes with Amlogic‘s new budget SoC, the S905Y5, but today we seem to break this trend with the WD05 Box.
This is the typical Chinese box with the classic rectangular design and in which stands out its external Wifi antenna and the integration of the new Amlogic S905Y5 SoC that promises to be 21% faster than its predecessor, the Amlogic S905Y4. An increase that if so, will be a major improvement for the S905Y series of budget processors, which now jumps to ARM Cortex-A55 cores from ARM Cortex-A53.
The operating system is Android TV 14, includes a remote control with microphone and as always better not expect updates or support of any kind for this cheap TV-Box.
WD05 Specifications
In this generic box we find the recent Quad Core SoC Amlogic S905Y5, manufactured in 6 nm. Inside we will have 4 ARM Cortex-A55 processors with a power of 20K DMIPS and an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 iGPU. At the video level we have support for native decoding of H.265, AVS2, VP9 and AV1 codecs with resolutions up to 4K@120fps and HLG, HDR10 and HDR10 technologies.
There is a single version of this Box with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and 32 GB of eMMc storage. We also find a micro SD card reader in case we want to expand the memory by this method.
Other notable specifications
In the area of wireless connectivity, we have Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 with an external antenna to improve reception and emission. The connectors included in the plastic box are two USB 2.0 ports, SPDIF digital audio output, 10/100 Ethernet network connector, 3.5 mm jack with analog audio and video output and a high-resolution HDMI 2.1a video output.
As usual, an HDMI cable, power supply and a basic remote control are included to be able to use this Smart Box right out of the box.
