Another Box with Android that appears in Chinese stores based on Android 11 and called X96Max Plus Ultra. The renewed version of the popular X96Max Plus that now incorporates the S905X4 SoC.
A Smart Box that contributes very little to what we already know and of which we have versions with up to 4 GB of RAM and that is capable of decoding the AV1 codec thanks to the presence of the latest generation Amlogic S905X4 SoC. As always, we inform you that this is a suitable Android Box to be used as a multimedia player, with KODI or similar, to run games and many emulators, but not very suitable for use with paid streaming platforms, due to the fact that it does not have certificates to view them in the best video quality.
If you want more information about this AMlogic processor, you can read our review of the S905X4.
X96Max Plus Ultra specs
The Android Box X96Max Plus Ultra includes the AMlogic S905X4 processor as an engine, a Quad Core manufactured in 12nm. A chip with low-power ARM Cortex-A55 processors that theoretically reach 2 GHz speed and integrates a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. The VPU includes 4K@60fps, HDR, HDR10 and HLG support.
We have different versions with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM memory soldered on the board, 32/64 GB of eMMc storage to choose from and a micro SD card reader where we can connect up to 64 GB cards to expand the internal memory.
Other features
In the field of wireless connectivity, all versions of this new Android Box have dual-band Wi-Fi aC and Bluetooth 4.1. The connectors included on the sides of its plastic case are a USB 2.0 port, another USB 3.0, 3.5 mm analogue audio and video output connector, SPDIF digital audio output, RJ45 10/100 Ethernet interface to connect via RJ45 cable and an HDMI 2.1 video output that can output video in up to 8K resolutions.
As usual, HDMI cable, power supply and a basic IR remote control are included to be able to use this Box from the first moment, although we have different options with other remote controls, paying an extra.
Price and availability in stores
- The X96Max Plus Ultra TV-Box with AMlogic S905X4 SoC can be purchased on AliExpress from $58 with free shipping.
The firmware is very buggy compared to that of the X96 Max+.
Adoptive storage does not work.
The permissions for file management are buggy also. It appears to be missing parts of the firmware to grant permissions to folders like ‘data’ & ‘obb’.
Until this is fixed it’s a definite step back from the previous model
Thanks for the feedback.
