X98 Plus new Smart Box with Android 11 and AV1

New entry-level Box X98 Plus based on the AMlogic S905W2 SoC that we found on AliExpress and that for once seems to include a metal case that always facilitates heat dissipation

The X98 Plus already arrives with Android 11, AV1 video decoding up to 4K@60fps resolutions and support for HDR 10+ technology. Its processor is very interesting within its price range as you can see in our review, and it is basically oriented towards multimedia playback, apps and IPTV streaming.

A basic Android Box is not recommended for viewing payment platforms like Netflix, since it lacks the certificates to view them in maximum video quality, but it can work on everything else without problems.

X98 Plus Specs

Inside the Box with Android X98 Plus we find the Amlogic S905W2 SoC manufactured in 12nm as the heart. This processor is a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and a MALI-G3 MP2 GPU. A sufficient processor to use streaming apps, KODI, IPTV and some simple 3D loaded games that, as always, is cooled by a fanless heatsink, so we do not have any noise.

In this device we have 2/4 GB of DDR3 RAM and 16/32/64 GB of eMMc storage memory soldered on board. It also has a memory card reader in micro SD format that allows us to increase its internal storage capacity.

Other features

In the wireless connectivity section in the X98 Plus, as it is a low-end box, we have Dual Band Wifi aC with internal antenna and Bluetooth 4.2. In the connectors section, this Smart Box has the usual, 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.1 port, SPDIF digital audio output, RJ-45 10/100 network connector and finally an analogue port for audio and video.

Included with the accessories are an infrared remote control, power adapter and all the necessary cables to get it up and running right out of the box.
