X98Q, a simple Quad Core Android TV-Box with Android 11

We found today in stores a new Box called X98Q. A simple entry-level device with the popular AMlogic S905W2 SoC and Android 11 operating system.

The X98Q thanks to its processor offers AV1 video decoding up to 4K@60fps resolutions and support for HDR 10+ compatible content. As we have seen this is a very interesting processor within its price range, you can see in our review and is basically oriented to multimedia playback, apps and IPTV streaming.

This is a classic Chinese Android TV-Box that as we always warn, is not recommended for viewing paid platforms like Netflix, as it lacks certificates to view them in maximum video quality. For that purpose we have other options.

X98Q specifications

Inside the X98Q we have a 12nm Amlogic S905W2 SoC, a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and a MALI-G3 MP2 GPU. This processor is enough to use streaming apps, KODI, IPTV and some simple 3D games that as always is cooled by a fanless heatsink, so we have no noise.

This device has 1/2 GB of DDR3 RAM on board and 8/16 GB of eMMc storage memory. It also has a micro SD memory card reader that allows us to increase its internal storage capacity.

Other features

In the wireless connectivity section of the X98Q, as it is a low-end box, we have Dual Band Wifi aC with internal antenna and no Bluetooth. In the connectors section, in this Smart Box we have 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.1 port, RJ-45 10/100 network connector and finally a reset button.
