Xiaomi has just unveiled its new Xiaomi TV Stick 4K that seems to substantially improve the fiasco of its previous Xiaomi TV Stick that left a bad taste in our mouths.
The new Xiaomi TV Stick 4K will most likely be based on the SoC Amlogic S905Y4 and offers a classic design within the TV-Stick. A dongle that only includes 2/8 GB and where expansion connectors are limited, something normal, it is a device completely oriented to streaming. As operating system includes Android TV 11 certified by Google with Chromecast, and includes certification to play Netflix 4K and other streaming services, in addition to supporting Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. As always we will conduct our usual review when it becomes available.
SoC, RAM and storage
The new Xiaomi TV Stick 4K seems to mount an AMlogic S905Y4 SoC (not yet specified) a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU that reaches 850 Mhz. This SoC includes decoding of the new AV1 codec, support for video output up to 4K@60fps resolutions and compatibility with HDR 10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision technologies.
The RAM memory is 2 GB DDR4 while for storage we have only 8 GB, so we will be able to install only a few apps and that can not be expanded, since we have no memory card reader.
Other specifications
For wireless connectivity, we have Wi-Fi aC Dual Band and Bluetooth 5.0. The connectors as we can see are very limited, as we only have a micro USB port (probably OTG) for power and an HDMI 2.0 video connector. This hardware allows us to play 4K@60fps compatible with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS HD. It will also include support for AV1 codec if it finally mounts the SoC we indicated.
The operating system is Android TV 11 updated directly by Xiaomi. The included remote control with Bluetooth and we have direct access buttons to Netflix and Prime Video in addition to integrating a microphone for voice functions with its key for Google Assistant.
Xiaomi TV Stick 4K price and availability
- The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K does not yet have a price or distribution date, we will update when we have that information. It is expected to be around $60 / 50€ competing with the Realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick.
ATV 11 ,plus DV & DA ,2/8gb many like myself who don’t care for fire os, Will be interested in this, Also the fire cube designed without any accessories, like A Lan or “multiple” USB’s , a big blank cube .I don’t use Alexa many don’t. Main issue is fire os, then design flaw Many 4k certified devices were recently released 95 percent were only hdr. This providing DV & DA is a big deal. Xiaomi made some good decisions with this I’m interested in the final product
rather ATV over fire os any day. Just my opinion. Dolby atmos and Dolby vision on atv curious in final specs
I got the Amazon Fire TV Cube for 59 euros in the EU and I think it’s a much better deal than this one, the SOC is much more powerful and it also has quite good Alexa integration.
But have Fire OS… if you like OK.
Just have to do some low-level MODDING, like swap out the FTV-Launcher and disable some of the bloatware of FireOS, then the Cube is the Best 4K/DolbyVision/DolbyAtmos Streamer under $100 / 100€.
You can go for Google Chromecast TV, with do nothing and cheap.
Some people don’t have the knowledge.
It’s not that much of a problem. It supports Android apps just fine, OK you have the custom launcher with some Amazon crap but for me personally it’s not a big deal.
Software support is also decent , it gets updates and all that.
Yes, is excellent… but you need to deal with Fire OS, Android TV is more flexible and don’t have this high level of crap.
This is not black and white, for one person one OS has more advantages than another.
I prefer consoles for the USB/ Lan ports etc,•cube is big enough for multiple ports ESP. Lan , fire os is an issue 4 me, the cube is do big(design flaw) why not give access to Lan and other accessories like the original fire box? you shouldn’t have to pay extra for that and get the adapter . But This is a great stepfor xioami after all the recent products being released. Cheap 4k google certified & Netflix 4k most have been HDR , DV gives them an edge on all those and And the SoC is a good one,… Read more »
