It seems that we already know the real data of the new AMD 8000G APUs, which will finally leave behind the ancestral APUs with Vega GPUs.
The new AMD Ryzen 8000G Phoenix-generation APUs are intended for desktop use with AM5 motherboards. With this hardware, AMD can already replace the popular AMD 5000G with Vega GPUs, offering a necessary improvement that will even bring them closer in graphics performance to current consoles. An important point to compete with the new Intel Arc integrated GPUs of Intel Core Ultra processors, which seem to finally stand up to AMD’s iGPUs.
We will see soon at CES 2024 in the coming days what AMD unveils in its new products that will be ready for this event.
AMD Ryzen 5 8600G APU Specifications
The new Ryzen 5 8600G APU was leaked in testing on the MSI X670E ACE motherboard, a high-end pcb that is not the optimal choice for this hardware. It will feature 6 cores and 12 threads with Zen4 or Zen4c technology on some of the cores with a speed of 4.35 GHz and a turbo mode reaching 5.0 GHz.
As for the integrated GPU, this APU will have a Radeon 760M with a total of 8 Compute Units reaching up to 2.8 GHz. With this graphics solution we will be able to run many demanding games in 1080p quality quite optimally by adjusting the graphics quality.
Power and consumption
You can see one of our Reviews with the performance of a similar RDNA3 GPU to get an idea. Although you have to keep in mind that desktop APUs do not have the power restrictions that notebook APUs do. For example, this 8600G has a power consumption of 65W, while a notebook APU ranges between 35-54W.
