New low-cost box equipped with the Rockchip RK3318 SoC called K96 Mini that for less than $31 can serve as a 4K media player. A Chinese multimedia box with a fairly decent configuration for its price since it at least includes 4GB of RAM. As always, watch out for this type of box, since we will not have support for new ROMs.
Basic review
The performance for this Smart TV-bo with Rockchip RK3318 SoC can be seen in the review of one of the similar TV-Boxes that we have already analyzed. This box with Android can work as a basic player with KODI or IPTV even in 4K resolutions and we can also run simple games without too much demand for resources. Remember that this cheap Box does not have secured support and does not have DRM certificates, so we can only watch Netflix in basic image quality. If you are interested in watching paid streaming in HD and 4K quality you can see our TV-Box list with compatible DRM certificates.
SoC, RAM and storage
The K96 Mini as we have seen includes the Rockchip RK3318 SoC that integrates four ARM Cortex-A53 processors capable of reaching 1.5Ghz and a Mali-450mp5 GPU that includes native H.265 and VP9 video decoding even in 4K@60fps resolutions with support for HDR. Its only version we know includes 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32 GB of eMMc storage memory that we can expand by adding a memory card in the included microSD card reader.
Other specifications
At the level of wireless connections this TV-Box has WiFi Dual Band and does not have Bluetooth. On the sides of the box we have a USB 3.0 port, another USB 2.0, 10/100 network connector, analog AV jack, SPDIF digital audio output, IR sensor extension and an HDMI 2.0a port that allows up to resolutions 4K@60fps video. The classic IR remote control is included with some keys enabled to clone functions and an HDMI cable.
