The MECOOL KD2 is a small streaming-oriented media player with Google-certified Android TV 11 as the operating system and Chromecast built-in. Its processor is an AMlogic S905Y4 that will give us the necessary power to move any app and that includes compatibility with Dolby audio, DTS, the AV1 codec and HDR 10, HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision.
The MECOOL KD2 CANNOT play Netflix 4K (only 720p) although it reaches 4K with Prime video, Disney+, YouTube and HBO at 1080p.
MECOOL KD2 Specifications
The MECOOL KD2 dongle integrates as an engine an AMlogic S905Y4 SoC, a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU that reaches 850 Mhz. This SoC includes decoding of the AV1 codec, support for video output up to 4K@60fps resolutions and compatibility with HDR 10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision technologies.
The RAM memory is 4 GB DDR4 while for storage we have 32 GB, a figure that is not bad considering the format of this type of device.
Other features
For wireless connectivity, we have Wi-Fi aC 2×2 MIMO and Bluetooth 5.0. The connectors are minimal, we only see a micro USB power port and an HDMI 2.0 video output.
The included remote control is Bluetooth, and we have direct access buttons to Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube and Google Play as well as a microphone for voice functions.
