A new Xiaomi Mi Box S is unveiled, but disappoints

It has appeared on the website of the US Federal Communications Commission, FCC, the first images of a new version of the Xiaomi MI Box S with the reference MDZ-22-AG.

A new version of this best-selling TV BOX with Android TV, although unfortunately it seems that it only incorporates really minimal changes that only affect its remote control. Those of you who were expecting a new version of the more powerful Xiaomi MI Box S with an AMlogic S905X4 SoC, more RAM, improved connectors and Wifi will be disappointed. Some sources confirm at hardware level is the same as the actual version, with the aging Amlogic S905X SoC as the central core.

As far as this new version of the Xiaomi MI Box S is concerned it seems that the changes affect the remote control which now incorporates a direct access button to the Amazon Prime Video streaming service replacing the underused LIVE button. Something similar to what we have recently seen with the new Amazon Fire TV Stick 2021, which repeats internal hardware and only renews its remote control with new shortcut keys.

Apparently the plastic case of the new Xiaomi MI Box S does not receive any changes and in the connectivity section we still find the same connectors as in the 2019 version with a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI, a 3.5 mm audio jack and the round power connector. In short, a new version with only changes in the keys of the controller, what a disappointment.
