New TV-Boxes with the Amlogic S905Y5 SoC are becoming expected, although at least some of these new players have already been announced, such as the Tanix TX5, which is expected to arrive in stores soon.
This is a box with the classic rectangular design in which only the new Amlogic SoC stands out, which makes the leap to 6 nm manufacturing and promises to be 21% faster than its predecessor, the S905Y4. An increase that, if confirmed, will be a significant improvement for this series of budget processors that skips ARM Cortex-A55 cores from ARM Cortex-A53.
The operating system is Android TV 14, but we can also choose to use the launcher of this brand called AliceUX. As always, we hope to make a review and comparison of the Amlogic S905Y5 when it is released.
Tanix TX5 Specifications
Inside this TV-Box Tanix TX5 we find the Quad Core SoC Amlogic S905Y5, manufactured in 6 nm. Inside we will have 4 ARM Cortex-A55 processors with a power of 20K DMIPS. The GPU is an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, the same as in the S905Y4 and the performance improvements we see are likely to be marginal. At the video level we will have support for native decoding of H.265, AVS2, VP9 and AV1 codecs with resolutions up to 4K@120fps and HLG, HDR10 and HDR10 technologies.
We have several versions with 2/4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 16/32/64 GB of eMMc storage. We also find a micro SD card reader in case we want to expand the memory by this method.
Other specifications
In the area of wireless connectivity, all versions have Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The connectors included in the plastic box are two USB 2.0 ports, SPDIF digital audio output, Ethernet network connector and an HDMI 2.1a video output.
As usual, HDMI cable, power supply and a basic remote control are included to be able to use this Smart Box from the very first moment.
