Intel has just unveiled its new technology for high-speed Thunderbolt 5 transmission connectors that is expected to hit the market next 2024.
The new Thunderbolt 5 includes USB4 v2 specifications and incorporates new bidirectional data transfer technology that goes up to 80 Gbps and reaches up to 120 Gbps in unidirectional video transfer.
A video transfer speed that even allows the connection of two displays with 8K resolution and that in general represents a significant leap forward compared to Thunderbolt 4.
Thunderbolt 5 specifications
Thunderbolt 5 supports USB4 V2, DisplayPort 2.1 and PCI Express Gen 4 and can naturally be used with an external GPU without any problems. The backward compatibility of the cable designed for this new connector is total, supporting any USB Type-C connector whether Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt4, USB4 and below.
It also incorporates the new PAM-3 (3-level Pulse Amplitude Modulation) technology that allows for better data transfer per clock cycle and support for up to 240W in power functions with the ability to power multiple devices at once.
