After a long wait, we have officially presented the new Xiaomi MI PAD 5, the substitutes for the Mi Pad 4 which they widely surpass in all its aspects and which comes in several versions with the MI PAD 5 PRO that optionally has a 5G modem.
Inside the Mi Pad 5 we find this time a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 SoC and in the MI PAD 5 PRO a Snapdragon 870, a high-end chip chosen by other brands such as Huawei or Lenovo to equip their more powerful tablets. The screen is one of its strengths, since we have an 11-inch panel with 2.5 K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate for both models and that we hope will be of great quality as in the Mi Pad 4.
The operating system is MIUI for PAD based on Android 11, optimized for tablets and with support for Stylus, which incidentally has a magnetized area at the top where it can be parked. We hope to review this new Xiaomi shortly.
SoC, RAM and storage
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 incorporates the Octa Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 SoC manufactured in 7 nm and that includes Kyro 485 CPU, the fastest reaches 2.96 GHz, three cores reach 2.4 GHz and the other four reach a speed of 1.8 GHz clock. It has an Adreno 640 GPU that allows you to play demanding titles.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 PRO includes an Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC manufactured in 7nm and that reaches up to 3.2 GHz in one of its ARM Cortex-A77 cores, it has another three ARM Cortex-A77 cores and four low-consumption CPUs ARM Cortex-A55. In the graphic section, we have an Adreno 650 GPU.
For RAM, we have includes 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM (6/8 GB LPDDR5 for the PRO) and 128/256 GB of high speed UFS 3.1 storage memory expandable through a micro SD card slot that we have.
Display and other specifications
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 tablet in its two versions has a new 11-inch IPS screen with 2.5K resolution (2560 × 1600), maximum brightness of 500 nits, 120 Hz refresh rate and support for HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. The front camera is 8 MP and the rear camera is 13 MP in the basic model, while in the PRO we have two 8 + 5 MP front cameras and a 13 MP rear camera that is improved to 50 MP in the PRO. In the audio section we have 8 speakers + 4 microphones for the Mi PAD 5 PRO while in the basic model we have 4 speakers. For unlocking and other functions, we have a fingerprint reader on the side.
We also have a USB Type-C port and 4-pin keyboard connector. Wireless connectivity is Wi-Fi AX, Bluetooth 5.1 on the PRO and Wi-Fi 5 connectivity with Bluetooth 5.0 for the other. The battery is 8720 mAh, 8600 mAh for the PRO, with 33W QC 3.0 fast charge (65W for the Mi PAD 5 PRO).
