ANDROID SYSTEM
Environment and user experience
We start the Sunvell T95Q by connecting it to the power source, it turns on automatically and the green led circle lights up. After a pretty psychedelic input animation we get to the default launcher based on the classic squares, we can only customize the lower bar with the shortcuts that interest us. The system moves very smoothly and quickly between the apps, there are no hardware performance problems thanks to the SoC S905X2 and the 4GB of DDR4 RAM.
- Launcher: Basic Launcher / YES we can change launcher but only Pixel launcher works 100% / Android UI rendering at 1080p.
- Multitasking and access: Multitasking not available directly / No lower access bar and notification area.
- Installed apps: Google play, Netflix, several streaming apps, modified Kodi, Airpin and Youtube.
- Languages: All the international Android classics.
- On/Off Controls: Pressing the power off button brings up a Restart or Shutdown menu.
System, support and store apps
Regarding the settings the Sunvell T95Q has three different settings menus, one the classic side menu with global android settings, another with TV-Box settings and finally the Android classics with the background in white. The Google Play store behaves normally and we can find the most common apps. The version of the system and the compilation of the kernel is quite new.
- System version: Android 8.1.0 (32 bit) / Kernel 4.9.61 (11-09-2018).
- App store: Google Play with all the apps available for the Android system.
- Brand support: This model does not have brand support, we will publish the firmwares that we find on the network.
- Root and scene: The system IS rooted / There are no custom firmwares for this TV-Box / NOT compatible with LibreELEC.
HARDWARE TESTS
Storage and RAM Memory
We perform our usual memory tests and internal storage in the Sunvell T95Q using the SD bench app. As we can see in the tests, the internal storage speed is good, which makes the system show fast. We also have as a novelty with a USB 3.0 port that allows us much higher reading speeds than the classic USB 2.0 although the writing does not reach the maximum of this type of ports. Sometimes when we connecting a hard drive to the USB port the box has rebooted.
- Storage: Total 32GB – Free 24GB. / Is expandable with a USB memory stick
- RAM: Total 4GB – Free 3GB / DDR4.
- Compatible formats: NTFS compatible / exFAT compatible
USB 2.0 | USB 3.0 | microSD | SATA | |
Read / Write | 22/21 MB/s | 152/31 MB/s | 22/21 MB/s | – |
WIFI and Bluetooth
In Wi-Fi connections, the Sunvell T95Q TV-Box has a Wifi a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz without Bluetooth 4.1 with which we connect to an ASUS RT-AC1200G+ Router, a mid-range device. We perform tests on the use of streaming using the iPerf measurement tool to see the maximum performance of each network adapter.
- Wifi speed results: Correct speed for this wifi adapter, quite stable.
- Wifi range: At a distance of 5 meters with a wall we have a signal of 41 dBm, correct values.
- Bluetooth: We can connect compatible devices without problems.
- We recommend reading our Tutorial SAMBA on Android networks if we are going to use files from our network PC.
Power consumption, temperature and noise
The power consumption of the Android TV Sunvell T95Q using the Amlogic S905X2 SoC has very good results in terms of efficiency, this new SoC manufactured in 12nm has a maximum consumption of only 5W which is lower than the previous S905X.
We check the performance of the TV-Box in scenarios of maximum sustained performance and in its usual use, we use a stress app for fifteen minutes and thermal camera to detect hot areas. As we have seen the Sunvell T95Q has no ventilation slots but the heat sink system works perfectly.
- Loss of performance: The system maintains a maximum constant performance, there is very little loss of performance.
- Temperature: The upper part heats up a little but does not affect the general use of the TV-Box.
- Noise: Fanless system, 0db.
PERFORMANCE TEST
SOC
As for power, the Sunvell T95Q has very good results and leaves the new Amlogic S905X2 Quad Core SoC with ARM Cortex-A53 processors and Mali-G31 MP2 GPU in a very good position. If we compare the results we can see it at the same level of the most powerful Amlogic S912 SoC, this processor goes below the powerful models like the Rockchip RK3399 that already integrates Cortex-A73 cores, in general an excellent product by the price that this TV-Box has.
- You can read our Comparison article for Amlogic S905X2 SoC with all its technical details
Benchmarks
Games and gamepads
In the gaming aspect the Sunvell T95Q have the Amlogic S905L SoC that integrates a Mali-450MP5 GPU, this model allows us to correctly move most Android titles without performance problems and good compatibility. The games with a high 3D load also move quite well and this GPU allows us to play them correctly in low or medium settings.
- Compatibility: IS possible to play demanding titles such as PUBG.
- Controls: Compatible with Gamepads by cable or bluetooth.
VIDEO AND AUDIO TEST
Video and audio connections
In terms of multimedia playback, the Sunvell T95Q behaves perfectly using the S905X2 SoC, a product that supports HDMI 2.1 video output that theoretically allows maximum resolution up to 4K@75fps with HDR information. We also have SPDIF optical audio output and AV jack for old stereo or TV audio.
As a novelty in this SoC we verify that we have image quality settings with brightness, contrast and saturation, and several preconfigured modes but they do not seem to take effect when selecting them. It also has DNR “Digital Noise Reduction” that effects a smoothing effect of the image with results that depend on personal tastes. We also have specific settings to activate Dolby Vision if we have a compatible TV.
- Automatic refresh rate change: Not available, the settings exist but it does not work. *
- Audio passthrough: Available in audio settings. *
- Image adjustments: Image quality settings exists but don’t work / RGB mode / HDR <> SDR modes. *
- Media sharing: Chromecast NO / Miracast NO / DLNA with BlubblePnP / Airplay no.
- HDMI CEC: Available in settings.
- * Tutorials: Judder effect and how to avoid it / Multi-channel audio guide / Correct dark screen when playing video on Android.
Video playback test
We passed our video playback tests on the Sunvell T95Q, a device that integrates the S905X2 SoC and a VPU compatible with most modern video formats as we see in the video tests. We can use players like MX Player or install KODI from Google Play, we can uninstall the pre installed without problems. This model is NOT compatible with LibreELEC.
The new engine of the VPU called TruLife Gen8 gives us a pretty good image quality, we have more defined colors than in the S905X models where video processing is basic. We must also highlight the best compatibility with VP9 P2 video in 4K resolution, plus we notice improvements in the playback of Anime HVEC but still charge the CPU.
- Compatibility: HEVC with good performance at 10 bit color or HDR / VP9 correct with P2, not compatible with 8K
- Tutorials: Install Addons in KODI in a simple way / LibreELEC installation guide for the TV-Boxes with Android

Audio playback test
Testing the Sunvell T95Q using a Yamaha RXV-577 AV receiver we check that they supports DD and DTS pass through sound. We can only listen to the multi-channel audio up to 5.1, if we do not have an AV receiver and we have problems to listen to files with AC3 or multichannel sound we must configure the system to listen to configure the system to listen to multichannel AC3 videos in stereo on any TV.
- Ports: HDMI up to 5.1 / Optical output SPDIF up to 5.1 / Stereo audio jack
- Certification: No
- Chomecast Audio: No

Streaming services
We pass the classic tests on streaming services to see how the most popular services work. In this model does not have certificates for these services. The Sunvell T95Q model presents the classic configuration without certificates that limits us in quality in several streaming services, as it does not have notification bars, it also presents some classic problem of this type of configuration.

CONCLUSIONS
Score
Opinion
As we have verified the new Sunvell T95Q offers us an interesting device for the price, we have a TV-Box with the latest Amlogic S905X2 SoC that brings us interesting improvements in several aspects. In this model we now have USB 3.0 and a pretty good network connectivity performance through Wifi or the Gigabit Ethernet port. We have also been surprised by the speed of internal storage that is noticeable when using the system, the 4GB of DDR4 RAM also help without a doubt. A model that works perfectly as a video player with improvements in image quality, for KODI or for games and apps.
The Sunvell T95Q despite with the releasing of the new Amlogic S905X2 SoC has a fairly stable and solid firmware, something that is not very common when we are with the first versions of a new SDK, the Android 8.1 system runs normally and we only have some small graphic glitches in some apps. It should be noted that if we do not have quick access bars and Android notifications what tarnishes a little the final result. In general we have a TV-Box with good results that debuts the new SoC of Amlogic quite decently.

Hi, my T95Q will not work when using an ethernet cable connection to router. It will only work on WIFI. I read somewhere that this is a common problem with other users of this unit.
Have you encountered this and is there a trick to resolving the problem?
Thanks
The manufacturer change the hardware maybe downgrade the eth gigabit to 10/100, ask to your shop for the new firmware and share to help others.
If they don’t solve your problem open a dispute.
If so, how to set it up?
does this TV box support dolby atmos?
No, only dolby core.
Is there a way to go to previous channel on the remote(s)?
you mean stream? Not that i know of….
HI All
I have bought this nice Box and hoped just to plug it in and use it. Unfortentyl it is not really working. During sturting up there is sound but as soon as it is woning there is no sound coming form the box. What ciould be the reason for that?
I do not understand very well … you do not have sound in Android or it just does not boot?
Yes there is no sound in android. During starting up i makes some nois so I know it works but as soon as It is on the home screen no souns anymore.
This equipment supports external HD?
Yes.
I just Bought T95Q Smart TV Box and I spent an entire day trying to add my static IP and it just does not work. How can I get this T95Q to work with my static IP? Please help.
I rebooted my router and modem and unplugged my t95Q box then when my internet came back up I plugged my t95Q box up but didn’t come back on. Tried to turn on with remote and want power on. Please let me know what I can do to get box on. Thanks
The TV-Box turns on only when connected to the DC adapter.
If don’t boot read this: https://androidpctv.com/android-tvbox-minipc-solve-common-problems/
How do I change my local news from London to Manchester
support arabic language ?
my t95q mouth caught with app, what should I do? I already reseted and can not change the option …. remote control locked too
Flash a firmware.
hmmm ok but openvpn is quite good imho…
Has anyone managed to run a VPN on this box??? I have installed openvpn, it works, the VPN is established…. however no app can see it, apparently… ???
Try with other app and compare.
Tried with 3 others (note the one I use with openvpn is a paid vpn service, the other 3 were free), None of them worked, they all do the same (VPN appears connected, but no traffic possible). I suspect setup of the damn box…
Use the search in our site and check if exist any new firmware.
As a alternative you can flash the beelink GT1 firmware.
There is a newer version on your site (T95Q-OTA-T20008-20190325_flashable.zip), but the files in the .zip don’t resemble any of the 3 flash methods the site lists. They LOOK as though they are intended for some other process(?). For example there’s a boot.img and a bootloader.img in the zip root…
Hm, ok the .zip seems to be created for loading to SD card then reboot with “button held down”. Then it starts up a text menu list that includes “update from sd card”… then THAT doesn’t work… sigh.
Guide updated, use the method 2-A
Ok thanks a lot, that way worked fine, 🙂 did not fix the basic VPN issue though… 🙁
Try the Beelink GT1 firmware, is much better.
The only problem is the IR remote incompatibility, you can use a mouse to control it.
It’s ok, I got the VPN up eventually, 🙂
what did you do to get it working?
Hi, you mean the GT1 MINI Firmware, no? if so, have you tried the latest 901N0? on this T95Q
Yes
How to flash g1 mini firmware?? I flashed new firmware T95Q-OTA-T20008-20190325_flashable.zip) save the Zipped file to sd card and did the update thru the OTA on the t95q and worked perfect, But i couldn’t get the g1 mini to update the same way
Just follow the firmware tutorial with the PC method.
Should I turn box off at night or just let it go to stand by
Connected ethernet cable to router.
Can’t access android box ethernet connection in settings.
The wording is blue in settings.
Have turned off wifi and rebooted. Still no access.
Is there a fix to this?
Ask for your shop for the firmware, share the link to help others.
Do A factory reset.
Or flash the Beelink GT1mini firmware and try.
My box is not working yet . Only a blue cour , no signal to tv and monitor
Reinstall the firmware.
Read this:
https://androidpctv.com/android-tvbox-minipc-solve-common-problems/
how do you change the led colour with the remote?
Not possible.
can the led be turned off?
You can only open the box and remove the led.
Or use black adhesive tape.
I having a problem connecting Bluetooth using Samsung galaxy s6 phone, any suggestions
Can’t connect m3u Motorola Bluetooth any such
Do you need to download a cleaner such as clean master or just use the built in memory cleaning tool? Also do you need to force close apps after use?
Just use the built in, do the same.
No need to do force close, this is a old Android gimmick.
Just reboot one time a day if you can.
not navigation bar
Exactly, as we explain.
You can install the firmware for GT1 mini with navigation bars, but losing the IR remote compatibility.
its not necessary to change the firmware, just install navigation bar from playstore, it works for me…
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nu.nav.bar
Interesting, i will check thanks.
Is it the best box under 65$ range???and are their any issues with the box..because many people are saying that it over heats and does not recognise usb and dont play 4k mkv’s very well
Thanks in advance mate

Since using beelink fw disable the remote, any advice how to make the Remote enabled again?
Use a wireless mouse, cheap, easy and fast.
You need a internal Android Knowledge to fin the IR remote in this firmware.
Thanks, however with a wireless mouse how can I control the power on? The device has no power on button, only option would be just unplug and plug the power cable?
Do you see any other option to power on? Thanks in advance for your advice.
Hi. Power on is only available with the default firmware and IR remote.
With the beelink firmware you can still power on/off the device with the original remote, the (black not the blue) “volume down” button is the “power on/off” now, also the “arrow down” still working and the “app” button is now the new “volume down”.
Thanks for the tip!
Anyone experiencing bluetooth keyboard connectivity issue with this device? im getting message couldn’t pair. im using Rii i8+BT LED Backlit Mini Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard.
We’re you able to get an answer regarding Bluetooth connection
On the box I have I can only 6 apps across the bottom on the home screen. Seems odd as every box with a similar home screen has space for 8. The gap it leaves with 6 is just odd. Is there a way to increase it?
In don’t see any launcher options.
just use this Launcher -> Square Home Launcher (Google PlayStore)
it has a lot of options.
I use tv launcher
just use another launcher like “square home launcher”. 🙂
Is it possible to turn the LED light on the top of the box from flashing or turn off altogether there’s no option on the remote that came with the box and I can’t find it in settings
the only way is to open the box and remove the led. 🙂
How do I turn led lights off on t95z there’s no option on remote or can I find it in settings
I used DUCT tape to cover it up.
Anyone can help?poor playback with 4k videos streamed through magic dragon..anyone can test with beelink firmware?
Contact with magic dragon customer service 😀
Every time the box is off and on again, it is back to the Chinese language. Is there are any way to fix the language setting permanently to English?
Flash the beelink gt1 mini firmware, much better. Use our search.
can it flash with this beelink firmware?? will no brick???
Users say yes… but this box can change his hardware without any advice, have some risk.
Can this box connect to a VPN via Ethernet? My current Android TV box has a bug which prevents this. If you don’t know, download the ExpressVPN app it gives you a week’s trial.
First time i hear about a bug like this, you have a infinite number of VPN apps to try.
Some has official ROM link, unfortunately I bricked it using TWRP and now I cannot start it anymore. I’d like to try to flash
There is no firmware available, why do you try to use TWRP without a firmware to recover it? … It’s not a good idea.
When we find it, we will publish, ask your store and request a firmware. Share the link to help other users.
Hi , i just got mine yesterday. Do NOT install Super User , you will brick your t95q as i did. The reset button is located inside the av port. With a toothpik you can press it. I got into reset meny , wiped cahce partition , wiped data partition with no efect ! it stucks at boot up logo !! I can not find the stock firmware anywhere !!! Please help. Thank you .
ps got it from gearbest , i just opened a ticket with them.
Gearbest must provide you the firmware, share the download link to help other users.
You don’t need to use the recovery menu, only flash the firmware with a black screen… with a firmware IMG file follow this tutorial:
https://androidpctv.com/firmware-update-guide-tvbox-soc-amlogic/
Exactly the same here my friend, just opened a ticket with gearbest
If gearbest don’t respond open a paypal ticket.
Interesting, never done that, and what are you suggesting me to say, something like “i’m entitled as an owner of a T95Q to have acces to the firmware(ROM) of the device?” or just asking for a refund just because of the lack of it?
Thanx!!!
Just say, “my box don’t boot anymore i need the firmware to try to recover it” don’t need to explain the root issue, this is a firmware fail. If don’t respond just advance the ticket as a normal product failure and scalate it.
Keep me informed.
Ok, if i don’t get any respond from gearbest the next days i’ll do that, thanks a lot Kim i’ll keep you informed.
If don’t respond then you will have more arguments with paypal.
Gearbest is trying to contact the suplier and they do not givr me the contact info…..
Suppliers for this kind of products never have contact with the users, wait for the firmware file, share the link to help other users. Thanks.
Today response from gearbest.

I AM HAPPY TO REPORT THAT MY T95Q WAS UNBRICKED BY THE FIRMWARE THAT KIM GAVE US. THANKS MAN !! IF I GET ANOTHER FIRMWARE FROM GB I WILL POST IT HERE. THANK YOU.
I can not get sound from any source
Try in another TV, check volume, check audio settings ouput…
My pleasure.
My Tv Box crashed again with no reason , tried many times with no veil…. Through it in the garbage….thank you guys for your effort .
Wait for the gearbest firmware, then open a dispute and claim your money back.
If you need help talk to us.
While i’m waiting for gearbest to confirm with their technical department and provide me with a solution i did an extensive testing of the firmware you provided, well this firmware is totally unstable, while the procedure went smoothly (burning the .img file on an sd card and by holding the reset button the device went straight to update the firmware), after the first reboot the boot sequence completed with success and the start menu finally came back!!! but not for long, when i tried to to open the settings menu i got the first restart, i said ok maybe it’s… Read more »
NEWSFLASH!!! Just got an email from gearbest regarding my issue and guess what???? They’ve send me a link for the same file that you provided 3 days ago!!! And i mean the exact same zip file with links to your site included!!! Oh man this is so funny!!!

Amazing 🙂
Then the only way is open a dispute.
Keep us informed.
For god sake… use the dot 😀
Keep me informed if you get a new firmware, thanks for your time.
If you want to take the risk you can try the GT1 mini firmware, is a similar hardware.
I wanted to purchase this tv box, do you recommend this or any other?
With S905X2 we recommend Beelink GT1 Mini:
https://androidpctv.com/comparison-best-android-tv-mini-pc-buy-tv-box-android/
Total success with the Beelink GT1 Mini Firmware 114N0, i encourage everybody that has a T95Q to flash this firmware, it totally transforms the device!!! It’s stable (so far), everything works smoothly, faster and even the screen resolution is better, the beelink file explorer rocks, the annoying obligatory screen saver that causes most of the problems is out(finally), the colors are better, and you even have the small menu that rises from the bottom so you can use the task manager(finally), the firmware does not include Netflix and Kodi but you can install it straight away using the AppMarket(which i… Read more »
Great to hear this 🙂
Hi Billy Georgiou
A friend of mine has bought one. Can you pelase tell me if you expirience any problem with the beelink firmware ? Bluetooth , wifi , lan , usb ?
thank you !!
Hi Nasos The answer in a big NO, everything is working perfectly, i have just updated to the latest firmware 115N0 through the beelink app that is included without losing any of my files, it’s like a brand new device, and as i said before it’s the way T95Q should work in the first place, my model is the 4GB RAM/ 64GB ROM and it’s working straight on the last 30 hours without any problem. Go ahead and do it, i used Burn Card Maker and the .img file https://androidpctv.com/firmware-beelink-gt1-mini-115n0/, you have to make an account in the beelink forum… Read more »
I will tel my friend. Just one more thing , my friend told me that she uses the spdif port for sound , does that work too ? I thing that the beelink mini does not have spdif .
YEP, the spdif is working fine, this is what i use too!!!
my friend tried diferent ways with beelink firmware, always stuck at beelink logo after update….
Use the PC flash method?
she does not have the cable needed for the pc flash method.
Buy (aliexpres, ebay..) or build one, is the best method.
i didn’t have the slightest problem with the SD Card procedure, i ‘ve used the Burn Card Maker and the 1.1GB .img file, you have to tick all the boxes first, then the program partitions the card, formats the card, remember to use allocation unit size 16 kb, after that the program starts to burn the image and you’re ending up with 3 files on the card, that’s all. After the flashing you have to wait a little on the black background with the beelink logo screen, around 2 minutes and then it comes the animated circles screen and after… Read more »

Thanks
I am looking the best Tv Box with android which one is the best between T95Z plus and T95Q with android 8.1
Which one is best between T95Z plus and T95Q before I purchase …
Like Billy said, the Beelink GT1 Mini Firmware is really better ! The launcher works very well and show plenty of information. The only drawback : The remote control that came with the t95q didn’t work anymore.
T95q uses IR remote, while Beelink GT1 uses RF remote.
how do you flash it?

Has anyone tried the Poison firmware on the T95Q Amlogic S905X2 TV box Poison ROM firmware update
There is an article here https://androidpctv.com/firmware-tv-box-t95q-s905x2-20192503/
I do not plan to use it until I know what the changes are and hear some good feedback.
And pilot does it work OK on new firmware?
