Design and connectivity
The Xiaomi Tag has a compact and robust design with IP67 protection , submersible up to 1 meter. On the front, there is a small cover that can be removed to change the internal CR2032 battery. The system will warn you when the battery is low so that you can replace it before it runs out. To start it up, you have to remove a sticker that blocks the battery contact.

For connectivity, it has Bluetooth BLE 5.4 and NFC support for Apple devices only. For global location, it uses Google and Apple’s own search networks. It does not include the UWB precision location technology found in the AirTag, but the price is also much lower.

Controls and app
As soon as you activate the Xiaomi Tag, the device will appear on your mobile phone so you can pair it. You need to install Google’s Android Find Hub app or Apple’s Find My app for iOS. The whole process is automatic and you only need to give location and notification permissions. With the app, you can share the tag with another user via a link and rename it so you know what you are locating.
We checked that the accuracy radius is about 20 meters, which is enough to give us a clue as to where we are looking for. This hardware does not have Apple’s precise UWB location, which also makes it more affordable. We can always make the device ring from our mobile phone.
- Security: If someone places a Xiaomi Tag on us, our mobile phone will display a warning that we have a tag nearby, following us, if it is not one of ours.

Opinion
The new Xiaomi Tag location tag offers a very simple and practical positioning system. By following a few guided steps, you can have your device up and running in seconds. What’s more, you can easily share it with other users and it has several anti-tracking security features.
This tag is compatible with Android or Apple, ensuring that we can use it with any device, which is much appreciated. As we can see, the design is very light and compact, perfect for carrying anywhere or as a keychain. The IP67 protection rating ensures durability. The CR2032 battery is very economical and easy to replace; the 1-year battery life means we won’t have to worry about changing it, but our mobile phone will warn us when the battery is low.
Without a doubt, this Xiaomi Tag is a good alternative to the AirTag. The price is very competitive and its compatibility with all systems makes it easy to use.
